A Northern Tradition Raises nearly $70,000
Over 500 people attended the 23rd annual A Northern Tradition, Mid Michigan College’s annual fundraiser, which took place recently at Jay’s Sporting Goods in Clare. This year’s event raised nearly $70,000, and over the past 23 years, A Northern Tradition has raised more than $2 million to support the College’s services to students and the community.
“This event is a team effort, and wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of Jay’s Sporting Goods,” shared Alexa Carey, Executive Director of the Mid Michigan College Foundation. “We’re so thankful to the sponsors, the restaurants and demonstrators, the many volunteers, and the attendees. This year was definitely one to remember.”
A Northern Tradition is the College’s most impactful fundraiser. The proceeds from this event allow the Mid Michigan College Foundation to support the College’s services to students through scholarships, program development, improved facilities, and student success initiatives.
Attendees enjoyed an evening of exclusive shopping and exceptional food provided by local restaurants, and were excited to meet the Featured Artist, Julie Tyslicky. For over 30 years, Tyslicky has taught drawing and color pencil to students of all ages through schools, 4-H groups, and local art centers.
Ticket holders were also entered to win a $1,000 Jay’s Gift Certificate. The 2026 lucky winner was Mary Jo Beal, pictured right.
“I am beyond grateful for how the community comes out to support the College year after year,” said Carey. “We strive to provide a valuable service to the community, and we truly appreciate their support of those efforts.”
