CHARLES E. ANTHONY AWARD

Charles E. Anthony
The
Charles E. Anthony Outstanding Service Award
was established by the
Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors following the
passing of one of the Chamber’s most dedicated volunteers, Charlie
Anthony.
Charlie served as Interim Director of the Chamber from 1991 – 1992,
while a search was being conducted for a new President. He served on the
board for a maximum number of terms and continued to be a “fixture” in
the Chamber office until his passing in 1995, offering to make
deliveries, collect dues payments, pick up golf prizes, solve problems,
tell a joke, sing a song or to just cheer up a weary Chamber staff.
According to former Chamber President Judi Sullivan, “Charlie was
probably the best volunteer I have ever known and worked with in all of
my various careers. He endeared himself to all of us in the office and
could make you laugh and remember what was truly important in life on
the most hectic of days. I will always remember his smiling face, his
never ending willingness to help and his sincere commitment to the Mt.
Pleasant community.” At the time the award was established, the Board of
Directors felt that it would be a fitting tribute to Charlie to bestow
this honor on another dedicated volunteer each year at the annual awards
banquet.
2007 Charles E Anthony
Recipient - Scott Gillespie

Each year, the Charles E. Anthony
Award is given to the Chamber Board member selected by the Chamber
staff as the one giving the most time, help, advice, and
assistance to the Chamber staff over the past year.
This year’s
recipient of the Charles E. Anthony Award (Charlie always said that
the E. was for “Excellence!”) truly exemplifies those very qualities
that Charlie possessed. Scott Gillespie
is truly dedicated to the Chamber of Commerce and the Mt. Pleasant
community. He serves on the Chamber Board of Directors and could be
referred to as the “Father of the Mt. Pleasant Chamber Referrals
Over Breakfast (ROB) program.” He brought the concept to the
Chamber in the fall of 2004 and served as the Chairman of the very
first group. We now have four ROB groups and Scott serves as the
Chairman of the ROB Leadership Committee. He has devoted countless
hours to ensure the success of the ROB program and he participates
regularly in other Chamber events such as the Business Expo,
Business After Hours and Business Over Breakfast. Director of Sales
for Otterskin Roof Gear & Construction, Inc. since 2002, his firm is
recognized as an “ELITE MASTER CONTRACTOR” through Duro-Last
Roofing, Inc. for maintaining a 96% superior installation quality
rating. Scott earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial
Technology from Central Michigan University, and with Otterskin he
works with area children through volunteer activities with the Mount
Pleasant Optimists Club and the Young Teens Network.
Congratulations to Scott Gillespie on an award well deserved!
